How could the US election results affect Turkey in particular?

The Turkish government has not made any direct statements in favor of any candidate in the US election.  When asked to choose between Trump and his fiercest rival, Joe Biden, the Turks will want to see Trump as the next president of the United States.  To find out why, let's first take a look at the past few years in Turkey and the United States.

Relations between the two countries have been deteriorating since the time of former US President Barack Obama.  Ankara blames the Obama administration for putting Turkey in crisis in Syria on various pretexts, especially since the start of the civil war in Syria;  For example, the United States withdrew shortly after training began, saying that Washington and Ankara would work together to train and co-operate with moderate opposition groups in the northeast against the Syrian government.  The PKK, a terrorist group active in southeastern Turkey, later joined hands with the Syrian branch, and despite hundreds of objections from the United States and Turkey, the terrorist group cooperated with large arms.  He brought weapons inside Turkey and used the PKK against Turkish security forces.  And Joe Biden was the mastermind behind the PKK's idea of cooperating with the Syrian part with huge weapons!

In Biden's mind, the Obama administration was desperate not to side with Turkey even after it became a member of the NATO alliance, but to strengthen the terrorist group that grew up along the Turkish border with weapons and training.  As a result, the PKK stockpiled enough weapons inside Turkey in 2015-2016 to wage a massive war against the Turkish army.  Later, when Turkey suppressed them inside the country and launched a campaign against the terrorist group in Syria, the US forces shielded them.

That's the beginning - a lot has happened since then.  The US Senate has recommended an economic and military embargo against Turkey if Ankara is forced to buy S-400 air defense systems from Russia because the United States has not sold air defense missiles to Turkey.  But Trump, in his presidency power, thwarted the blockade against Turkey.  Trump's personal relationship with Turkish President Erdogan is also working behind this!  Even if Trump is re-elected, he is not sure how long he will be able to hold the blockade.  But if Biden is elected, one of his quickest decisions on foreign affairs will be to impose a blockade on Turkey.

He also did not bother about Turkey's proximity to Russia because of Russian President Putin's positive relationship with Trump.  But Biden will not do that.

Ankara breathed a sigh of relief at Trump's decision to withdraw US troops from the Middle East.  But if Biden is elected, he may decide to send troops again!

Although Turkey's recent strong presence in Syria, Libya, the Mediterranean and Nagorno-Karabakh did not bother Trump, Biden has vehemently opposed Turkey's presence and threatened to show Turkey a hand if elected.  In an interview with a newspaper in January of this year, Biden made it clear that he would do his utmost to change the government in Turkey!  It was even reported in many Turkish media that Biden was in Turkey just days before the bloody failed military coup of 2016 and supported the coup!

It is no secret that Fethullah Gulen, the mastermind of the military coup and an American resident, and his supporters allied themselves with Biden and his party.  Judging by all this, Biden's victory in the US election will not bring any good news for Erdogan.

Biden's election will also upset the governments of some countries in the Middle East.  He will be a headache, especially for Saudi Arabia.  After all, Trump directly intervened in the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and saved Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman.  But Biden is expected to continue the trial and take strong action against the perpetrators.  Even if he did, it would be tantamount to indirectly cooperating with Turkey.

Besides, Biden is not expected to take any tough action like Trump against Saudi Arabia's arch-enemy Iran.  So the idea is that countries in the Middle East that would have benefited from Trump's single-mindedness would have suffered considerably if Biden had been elected.

U.S. voters may be thinking about their future.  But this election in America will be considered as an election to determine the fate of Turkey and many countries in the Middle East.
